Description

~IllGiveYOUFreedom had made a picture about how the MMD community has gone crazy.

"Well, back when MMD was first created and put out to the community, as free software for others to use, and the models had begun to be distributed, everyone was happy to see the edits, and see the distribution of said edits. Especially the creators. The creators were overjoyed, because it was the fandom's way of saying "I love your work!"

Then one model creator changed it all. Someone made an edit of his model, and instead of embracing it like the other modelers did, he threw a fit. Called it disgracing him because of what they did. Then another modeler encouraged people to tattle on model editors and have them blacklisted.

Thus, the creator of the Miku Miku Dance program stopped creating updates for it. Because the community, the fandom that so embraced his work, had changed it from something fun to something with a set of rules. And from then on, it just got worse and worse.

To put this into perspective, especially those of you who once were or are now Hetalia fans. Let's say you had created a piece of fanart, something you were proud of and excited to show the world. Then Himaruya started freaking out because you were using his characters in that work.

But he doesn't do that, and the modelers have no right to do it. Himaruya, I am sure, is happy to see all this fanart and all these fanfictions for Hetalia. He got to watch it grow and become what it is today. No matter which form it comes it, be it Miku Miku Dance or a picture, a painting or a simple sketch, a long story fanfiction or just a small one-shot, I am sure he loves to see all of it.

Should this not how the modelers act? Instead of being selfish and yelling 'You're destroying my work!', embrace it and be glad to see people love their models enough to edit them, and use them in their fanworks. How would they feel if a year, or even ten years from now, when people were using Miku Miku Dance, instead of their own models they were using different models? And left on the shelf where no one looks at it ever again?

If I created a model, like I am hoping to some day do, I would not be self-centered and scream you couldn't do anything and set the MMD Police on you if you did. I would enjoy it and be happy to see it. Maybe download edits myself so I could use them. What's so wrong with that?

Why can't things go back to before....?"
